Behind the Scenes at doTERRA: A Journey of Purity, People & Purpose
Jamie and I embarked on a visit to DoTerra Corporate Headquarters this past week! What a thrill to see the beautiful campus ~ so vibrant and flourishing with positivity and productivity! The campus is situated in the mountain range, and bursting with the onset of Spring. Tulips, daffodils and blossoming trees were all around us - connecting the campus with the beauty and majestic surroundings of nature. I found a connection between heaven and earth here- a divine interchange between nature and humanity!
Did you know that DoTerra travels the globe to find the purest plants which produce the essential oils? DoTerra invests internationally to partner with many farmers, villages and communities in which poverty is the norm. In this way, DoTerra brings humanitarian aid and financial support in exchange for the harvest of nature's purest sources. Many of these families are able to send their children to school and improve their quality of life. DoTerra also supports these communities by bringing clean water, donating time, vocational training, and financial resources!
One of my greatest concerns in regards to use of essential oils has been related to lack of information regarding how the oils interact with prescribed medications. This was discussed during my undergraduate and graduate studies at length. Therefore, in my personal clinical practice, I have typically steered away from such interventions for this reason. So, you may ask - why am I bringing this forward now? It is due to what I have learned with DoTerra. When the plants are harvested, they are prepared into essential oil in the area where they are found. From the start, DoTerra is testing the purity of the oil prior to shipping it to the Corporate headquarters where the oils are tested on arrival and at each step of the blending, bottling and shipping process. There is a large group of scientists and researchers who study and analyze the oils at every stage. They look at the impact of heat, cold and storage on the oil. The company employs an entire research department who analyzes randomized control trials and ongoing research throughout the world to learn and provide proper education to consumers and regulatory bodies alike. There are volumes of research conducted which reveal the efficacy and safety as it pertains to the use of essential oils.
However, most essential oils that are on the shelves and sold online have not been harvested and prepared with such rigorous testing. Many are ladened with synthetics, adulterated with chemicals which do not support health and can actually harm people.
The level of commitment, empowerment, quality and mission to bring healing to the world is truly remarkable! During my trip I toured the manufacturing center where the scientists worked in the testing labs, the fulfillment centers where the oils are packed and shipped to customers around the globe. I met with Emily Wright, one of the Founders of doTerra, and she shared her personal story with me and how this set the dream in motion. She reminded me that being intentional to share hope and love with others through community and connection is the greatest intention of all.
I was also honored to meet with Dr. Brannick Riggs who has established a medical practice on the doTerra campus. Dr. Riggs is so passionate about helping people! He designed Prime Meridian Healthcare right down to the interior design. Dr. Scott Johnson also met with me to share the research he and his team are responsible for. Dr. Johnson is also a author and has provided me with a deeper understanding of how essential oils can be used safely to help people.
From those I met in the business offices, to the medical experts, to one of the Founders - one thing is most evident of doTerra - this team is committed to helping people and I am in awe of the generosity, dedication to purity, validation through clinical research and product quality, as well the kindness that I witnessed at every turn.
Thank you Jamie Peterson (doTerra’s darling) for sharing essential oils with me. May this discovery and curiosity to learn more provide momentum and another facet of wellness at Living Simply Well! I am committed to learning and sharing this with all who share the interest!
